SMETS Course Details

On receiving payment for your SMETS Course, an email with your ‘course joining instructions’ is sent to you.

This document includes the following details:

  • Your chosen course date
  • Course start time at your chosen venue
  • Address of your chosen venue, including a map screenshot
  • Details of what to do if you need any special requirements to complete the course

You need to bring photographic ID, such as a driving licence or passport with you.

Lunch is not included, so please provide your own.

Assessment and Certification

At the end of the course, you will be required to complete a exam that consists of 25 questions. You will be given 30 minutes to complete the exam and you will need to get 24 marks out of 30 marks to pass the exam.

  • 22 questions are worth 1 mark
  • 1 question is worth 2 marks
  • 2 questions are worth 3 marks
  • You will need valid photographic ID (a passport or UK/EU driving licence)

What happens if I fail the CITB SMETS assessment?

In the event that delegates fail a CITB assessment paper and they qualify to do a re-sit assessment, the assessment paper can ONLY be taken on the same day.

On successful completion of your course you will receive a digital certificate, which will be valid for 5 years.

What does CITB stand for?

What ID can I use for my CITB course?

When you attend a CITB Site Safety Plus course you need provide a form of photographic ID such as:
  • Passport: A valid passport of any nationality of the delegate – must not be more than 6 months out of date
  • Photo Card Driving Licence: A valid UK only driving licence with a photograph of the delegate – must not be more than 6 months out of date
  • Non UK Driving Licence: Showing a photograph of the delegate – must not be more than 6 months out of date
  • Work ID Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate – must not be more than 6 months out of date (if applicable) and refer to the delegates present employer
  • EU Country ID Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate – must be no more than 6 months out of date
  • CITB Scheme Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate – must be no more than 6 months out of date. Acceptable CITB Scheme cards include CSCS, CPCS, CISRS
  • Student ID Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate, as well as year of study (e.g. 2018/2019 or expiration date and name of the institution of study) – must be no more than 6 months out of date
  • Citizen Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate and be no more than 6 months out of date
  • Proof of Age Card: Cards issued nationally in the UK by VALIDATE UK, bearing the PASS hologram bearing a photograph of the delegate
  • Young Scots Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate – must be no more than 6 months out of date
  • British Armed Forces Card/Veterans Card: Showing a photograph of the delegate and for an employee or former employee of the Armed Forces only (not a dependent or spouse) – must be no more than 6 months out of date
If a delegate does not hold any of the above ID documents they will need to complete a waiver form.

Do I get a workbook for my course?

For some courses, you will be sent a PDF workbook, which is easy to take with you to work or site (on a mobile device) and has a much smaller carbon footprint for the environment. For CITB courses, you will be sent a link to access workbooks for your course. If you need access to a physical copy of your workbook and you have been sent a PDF copy, contact a member of our team using the online chat by phone (0800 0213 263) or email us to see how we can accommodate you.

How long is a Temporary Works Coordinator qualification valid for?

If you have completed the CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Training course, the qualification is valid for 5 years after your completion date.

How long will my certificate take after completing the course?

Your course assessment results are entered on the CITB system within 5 working days of completing the course. You will then receive an electronic certificate a few days after your results are entered on the system. If you need your certificate to work, we can send you an email to confirm you have passed your course. This should satisfy your employer until you receive your certificate. 

When will my CITB certificate expire?

The CITB Site Safety Plus suite of courses have 5 year expiry dates on their certificates. This includes the following courses delivered by Project Skills Solutions:
