What is the EUSR SHEA Gas Course?
SHEA Gas Courses (Safety, Health & Environmental Awareness) are designed to give those in the gas industry the knowledge and skills to work to a good standard of health and safety in line with HSE guidelines. The course will gain you a EUSR CSCS partner card, which will prove you have the level of health and safety knowledge necessary to access operational sites within the gas industry, whether you are an operative, supervisor or management and needing access on a temporary or permanent basis.
You study a total of 9 modules, 6 are core modules, which are covered in all SHEA courses and 3 modules that are specific to the UK gas industry.

EUSR CSCS Partner Card
You must complete all nine modules and pass the SHEA Gas assessment to gain EUSR SHEA Gas registration. This card scheme allows utility workers to access CSCS controlled construction sites and was developed so that utility workers would not need to carry several different types of cards and qualifications.
Once you have completed the course successfully, you will be added to the register and able to purchase a virtual or physical plastic card.
Your card will be valid for 5 years.

EUSR is the register of training and skills for the energy and utility sector. Schemes and programmes have been developed by Energy and Utility Skills and qualify an individual for registration on the Energy & Utility Skills Register (EUSR).

EUSR SHEA Gas Course Content
Module 1: Your responsibilities
Become familiar with the underpinning legal framework and definitions that apply to responsibilities in the workplace setting for individuals and employers.
Module 2: Understanding the effects of our work on the environment
Key environmental considerations in the workplace and their impact on the sustainability of their environment, including managing waste.
Module 3: Identifying and controlling risks
Be able to identify and control risks and hazards, and understand your role in preventing them through a range of positive and proactive health and safety behaviours.
Module 4: Common hazards in the workplace
Identify a range of common physical hazards and minimise your impact in the workplace, in line with CSCS requirements.
Module 5: Working on the highway
Understanding the processes and procedures required to work in the highway. This includes both public and private environments and creating a safe working environment through safe systems of work. You will be taught what to do in the case of an emergency.
Module 6: Pressure regulating installations
This module will provide you with an understanding of the journey gas makes from beach to meter and the types of risks associated with pressure-regulating gas installations.
Module 7: Safety in premises
Understand the requirements to work safely in domestic and commercial premises. This module also examines how to communicate effectively with customers.
Module 8: Occupational health hazards
This module will explain the meaning of the term ‘occupational health’ and develop your understanding of a range of occupational health hazards including, chemical, biological, physical and psychosocial hazards. It will help you identify, mitigate for and minimise occupational health hazards in the workplace.
Module 9: Responding to emergencies
Develop an understanding of emergency response behaviours, the role of reporting, inspection and enforcement of health & safety in the workplace. It also develops your understanding of the impact on employee and employer of both poor/improving health and safety in the workplace.

Assessment and Certification
You will complete a multiple-choice test at the end of each module. Each module will have 4,5 or 6 questions at the end, and you must achieve at least 80% in each module to pass (equivalent to only one question incorrect in each module). You are allowed to have a second attempt at each module test.
Your certificate will be applied for by the training school and sent to you. You should receive your certificate within 4 weeks of your course.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal requirements to enrol. It is advised that you have a good knowledge of written and spoken English to attend this course.
