What is the EUSR Utility Excavations Category 2 course?
The EUSR Utility Excavations Category 2—Implement Safe Digging Excavating Practices course prepares managers, supervisors, operatives, and safety professionals to safely excavate and maintain trenches while minimizing risks and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Specifically, using both hand tools and hand-held power tools to safely excavate and maintain holes and trenches. During the course, you will learn to interpret utility drawings and line search documents, safe digging techniques, health and safety risks, and hazards. Through theory training, practical training, and assessments, you will gain hands-on experience and demonstrate competency in safe excavation work. By completing this course, you will earn a virtual EUSR card.

You must complete the practical and theory-based training as well as the assessment to be added to the EUSR register and gain your virtual EUSR card. This card allows utility workers to access excavation and construction sites. Your card will be valid for 3 years.
