The N23 One Fibre Network FTTP Strategic UG and OH Build course provides training in the provisioning and installation of end-to-end underground and overhead networks from the Aggregation Node to Connectorised BT (CBT). In particular, it keeps engineers and contract partners up-to-date with Openreach’s latest specifications for their network and infrastructure. Importantly, before enrolling delagates must have fibre splicing experience or field experience.

Delegates will learn to manage underground and overhead builds, splicing, use of proper cabling, tools and equipment. Additionally, delegates will gain experience in mounting, feeding cables, installing splitters, and other essential skills required to pass the N23 assessment. With this intention, it is an integral training requirement for professionals involved in installing and configuring Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) infrastructure. Comprising of a set of specialised training courses, they focus on the installation, maintenance, and repair of Openreach’s network infrastructure. Notably, the “N” stands for “network,” and these courses cover various aspects of network operations, including fibre optic installation, overhead and underground network cabling, and other critical network maintenance tasks. Qualified trainers train engineers and contractors to ensure they are fully qualified to carry out their work safely and in compliance with Openreach’s requirements.

N23 One Fibre Network FTTP Strategic UG and OH Build Course Content

Notably, the training takes place over 4 days, while 1 day is allocated to the questionnaire and practical assessment. If you are a novice, you have the option to either complete the full four days of training or just complete the assessment. Trainers will guide delegates in completing the tasks below to Openreach’s quality standards, using the appropriate tools, equipment, and working practices. The course consists of two sections.

You will cover the following content on your N23 One Fibre Network FTTP Strategic UG and OH Build course:

Section 1:

  • Install No Drill bracket and Mobra mount
  • Position the large node on the Mobra
  • Feed the COF600 into the large node and loop it through
  • Install 4/7BFT
  • Mount the UG CBT on the pivot arm/Mobra and connect the tail to the large node
  • Introduce COF215 to feed the small/medium node
  • Install 2 x 32 splitters
  • Complete the necessary splicing tasks

Section 2:

  • Install a small/medium node in a temporary position on a pole
  • Introduce the COF215 feed into the small/medium node and loop it through
  • Mount the overhead CBT on the pole and connect the tail into the small/medium node
  • Install two 32-splitters
  • Erect a span of COF215 using the proper clamp and route it through the ELM
  • Erect a span of COF250 using the proper clamp and anti-oscillation twists
  • Complete the necessary splicing procedures
