NRSWA Courses in Rainham, Essex
The NRSWA Unit S1 Signing, Lighting, and Guarding training course is held at the venue 15 minutes away from Rainham, in South Ockendon, just off the A13. Ockendon Station is 5 minutes away by taxi or a 20-minute walk. The nearest bus stop is a 10-minute walk from the venue. It is served by local bus routes, connecting to Rainham, Grays, and Tilbury. The venue is easily accessible from Grays and Basildon via the A13, from London via the M25, and from Tilbury via the A1089.
Free parking is available opposite the centre gates. While lunch is not provided, there are nearby food options where you can pick up lunch and refreshments.
The training course begins at 8am and ends at approximately 4pm.
Alternatively, this course is also available 20 minutes away from Rainham, in Barking.

What to expect from your course
On your Supervisor Signing, Lighting and Guarding course in Rainham, Essex, you will be taught how to:
- Understand how to monitor, and monitor, a survey completed on site.
- Understand how to monitor, and monitor, the protection on pedestrians, vehicle traffic and site workers.
- Understand how to monitor, and monitor, the provision of portable traffic signals and Stop/Go traffic control.
- Understand how to monitor, and monitor, safety on site.
Equipment to bring on the day
You will be learning on a live site during your course. Therefore, you will be required to wear protective clothing. Requirements vary by location, and some centres can be more accommodating but typically you are required to bring:
- Fluorescent Jacket Long-sleeve
- Overalls/Work Clothes (shorts not allowed)
- Gloves
- Safety Boots
- Waterproof Clothing
- Hard Hat

What is NRSWA?
The NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act 1991) exists to ensure safety and correct practice when carrying out any work on roads, highways and footpaths. It is there to minimise risk to both workers and the public. It is an act of legislation (a law or set of laws passed by Parliament). The qualifications required for operatives to undertake streetworks was updated in 2016. In the NRSW Act itself, there are lots of practical guidance given for the efficient co-ordination, ensuring safety and minimising disruption and inconvenience to the general public using the road or pavement.
