CITB courses are available in two different locations in Newcastle: Newcastle upon Tyne (NE4 postcode) and Jarrow in Newcastle.
In Newcastle upon Tyne, the training venue is only 1.7 miles from Newcastle Railway Station, as well as having free parking on site for those travelling by car.
The venue in Jarrow, Newcastle, is just off the A19 south of the Tyne Tunnel. There is free parking available on site and it is close to local amenities if you want to leave the site for lunch. This venue doesn’t only offer classroom-based training – it is also equipped with large outdoor areas for confined space training and NRSWA Streetworks.

What to expect from your course
The SMSTS course is aimed at those who are already in or aspire to be in managerial roles or more senior roles within their construction organisation. It is also beneficial for a range of professionals that are regularly within a construction environment such as engineers, architects and quantity surveyors who may have health and safety responsibilities related to health and safety.
You will cover the following content on the CITB SMSTS Refresher course:
- Health and safety management: legal responsibilities, risk assessment, hazard identification and control measures
- Compliance with health and safety legislation and regulations
- Mitigating risks by implementing control measures and strategies and monitoring how effective they are
- How to communicate effectively as a leader and conduct ‘toolbox talks’
