The following list is the full range of Operative NRSWA Training units. Since our courses offer various combinations, you must check that the course you want to book includes the units you require:
- Unit LA (Was Unit 1) – Location & avoidance of underground apparatus
- Unit O1 (Was Unit 2) – Signing, lighting and guarding
- Unit O2 (Was Unit 3) – Excavation in the highway
- Unit O3 (Was Unit 4) – Reinstatement & compaction of backfill materials
- Unit O4 (Was Unit 5) – Reinstatement of sub base & road in non-bituminous materials
- Unit O5 (Was Unit 6) – Reinstatement of cold-lay bituminous materials
- Unit O6 (Was Unit 7) – Reinstatement of hot lay bituminous materials (subject to centre)
- Unit O7 (Was Unit 8) – Reinstatement of concrete slabs (subject to centre)
- Unit O8 (Was Unit 9) – Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways
A NRSWA Streetworks Operative is anyone who carries out the manual excavation and reinstatement of footpaths and highways. The New Roads and Street Works Act requires that anyone who executes, works for, or on behalf of a utility company is qualified for the activities being carried out. Those who are supervising streetworks need to attend a NRSWA course for Supervisors.

Customer Testimonials
Here are some testimonials left by our previous happy customers
What is NRSWA?
The NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act 1991) exists to ensure safety and correct practice when carrying out any work on roads, highways and footpaths. It is there to minimise risk to both workers and the public. It is an act of legislation (a law or set of laws passed by Parliament). The qualifications required for operatives to undertake streetworks was updated in 2016. In the NRSW Act itself, there are lots of practical guidance given for the efficient co-ordination, ensuring safety and minimising disruption and inconvenience to the general public using the road or pavement.
Prepare for your NRSWA course
We offer revision tools, like our mock test, to help delegates prepare for the signing, lighting and guarding element of their course. Try out the mock test and see what your current knowledge is and what you may need to know before the end-of-course assessment.
