NRSWA courses in Caldicot, Wales
The NRSWA Unit O1 course is held at the training venue 30 minutes away from Caldicot, in Gloucestershire, just off the M5. Yate Station is about 20 minutes away by taxi. The nearest bus stop is an 8-minute walk from the venue. Bus services X6 and 60 operate in this area.
The venue is easily accessible from Bristol and Newport via the M4, Swindon via the A419, and Thornbury via the M48.
Free onsite parking is available. While lunch is not provided, there are shops nearby where you can pick up lunch and refreshments during the course break.
The course hours are 8.30am – 4.30pm.
NRSWA Streetworks training is available in Caldicot, Wales: a short drive from the A48, this venue is on the outskirts of Caldicot and a 7-minute drive from Caldicot train station. It is also only a 45-minute drive from Cardiff city centre, making it an ideal location for those in South Wales.

What to expect from your course
On your Operative Signing, Lighting and Guarding course in Caldicot, you will be taught how to:
- Produce a plan of an intended site showing the position of signs, guarding and traffic signals. The plan must include all relevant distances, sizes, and dimensions required.
- Produce a list of equipment for the intended site.
- Position, test, adjust, commission and decommission temporary traffic signals.
- Conduct the activities safely wearing the appropriate safety wear.
Equipment to bring on the day
You will be learning on a live site during your course. Therefore, you will be required to wear protective clothing. Requirements vary by location, and some centres can be more accommodating but typically you are required to bring:
- Fluorescent Jacket Long-sleeve
- Overalls/Work Clothes (shorts not allowed)
- Gloves
- Safety Boots
- Waterproof Clothing
- Hard Hat

You will be asked to provide photo ID on your course, such as a passport or driving license, please bring this with you.

What is NRSWA?
The NRSWA (New Roads and Street Works Act 1991) exists to ensure safety and correct practice when carrying out any work on roads, highways and footpaths. It is there to minimise risk to both workers and the public. It is an act of legislation (a law or set of laws passed by Parliament). The qualifications required for operatives to undertake streetworks was updated in 2016. In the NRSW Act itself, there are lots of practical guidance given for the efficient co-ordination, ensuring safety and minimising disruption and inconvenience to the general public using the road or pavement.
