What will I need to attend a virtual course?

All you need to attend a virtual course is access to a computer, laptop or tablet with a microphone and webcam to use for the duration of the course. Most laptops have a webcam and microphone built-in; however, if you are unsure if your laptop, internet, microphone or anything else is suitable, we can arrange a short test meeting before you book or attend your course to check. This course cannot be attended on a mobile phone.

We will fully support you through the Virtual SSSTS course. You’ll join the course via Zoom using a link in your joining instructions. Zoom is free to use; you can download it, or you can open the meeting in your browser on the first day of the course using the link.

You will be given 30 minutes to complete the assessment and you will need to get 25 out of 30 marks to pass the test. You are allowed to use the Construction Site Supervision (GE706) publication during the last 10 minutes of your exam.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some of the questions we frequently get asked about our CITB SSSTS virtual training courses.

Can I attend the virtual CITB SSSTS course on a smart phone?

As the CITB SSSTS course is a 2-day course, we do not allow delegates to complete the course on a smart phone. The smaller screen size will make following the tutor difficult over 2 days, as well as getting involved in the interactive activities and completing the assessment. If you do not have access to any device other than a smart phone, then a classroom-based course might be a better option for you. Contact one of our team to discuss what your options are.

How long does the SSSTS Supervising Safely exam last?

The exam lasts 30 minutes, the first 20 minutes is a closed book exam (where you can not use any supporting materials to help you answer the questions) and in the last 10 minutes of the exam you are allowed to look in the Construction site supervision (GE706) workbook (PDF).

What are online virtual courses?

Online virtual courses give you the same training as you would receive in a classroom course. The difference is that your trainer is on your screen instead of in front of you in a classroom. The training is live and in real-time with the trainer taking you through the course in the same way as a classroom course. The content and qualification awarded are also the same but the presentation is modified to make the online experience interesting and engaging.

Is lunch included on virtual courses?

Lunch and refreshments are not included for your virtual course or on most classroom courses. You’ll have plenty of breaks to make yourself a tea or grab some snacks though.

What’s the difference between virtual and elearning?

Elearning courses are made up of course materials that you read, listen to and watch. Our virtual courses are more like classroom courses except you are viewing your tutor and the presentation on your screen. You learn alongside other delegates, take part in group activities and discussions, share stories and situations from your workplace and get advice from your tutor and classmates. Elearning you learn at your own pace, choosing to do it all at once, an hour at a time however you like, virtual courses have set times just like a classroom course.

What do I have to do to complete the exercise on the SSSTS course?

You must prepare a risk assessment or method statement (or both) and/or provide complete ‘set up’ detail on a relevant drawing for the project.

What does the trainer review involve on the SSSTS course?

The trainer will review your participation using three elements 1. Did you work well as part of the team during the exercise? 2. Have you actively engaged with the course and the group? 3. Have you completed the toolbox talk? All three elements will be either a pass (yes) or fail (no) and all three elements will need to be given a pass for you to pass this element of the course.

Is this course CITB approved?

Yes this course and content is approved by the CITB.

What happens if I fail the SSSTS exam and trainer review?

If you have passed the trainer’s review and gained between 70%–77% (21 to 23 out of 30) in the examination or achieved the 80% pass rate but failed the safety-critical questions, you may re-sit a different examination.

What happens if I get 67% or lower on the SSSTS course?

If your score is 67% (20 correct answers out of 30) or less in the final examination, you must attend the full SSSTS course again before you can re-sit the examination.

What is the pass mark for SSSTS?

The SSSTS examination pass mark is 80% (24 out of 30).
